Elms breaks record as Cambridge claim golds

First of all this week, the club rankings have been updated to include all performances in May and can be viewed here.

Southern Counties U20 Championships

Cambridge Harriers claimed three golds at Crystal Palace in the South of England Senior and under 20 Championships.

A good quality race and a bout of injury free training enabled Clare Elms to set yet another new national record, this time for the over 45 age group 1500m with an amazing time of 4.33.27.

There were a number of other good performances at the Palace as club members picked up three titles on the Saturday.

Curtis Griffith-Parker took double gold in the Shot and discus with throws of 16.77 and 53.88 respectively.

Dean Lacy follwed this up with a gold, winning the Steeplechase in a comfortable 9.41.99.

Anesa Wanogho won silver in the Under 20 Shot with a putt of 12.24.

Caroline Ford set a massive pb of 2.17.74 in the 800m but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final.

Kate Laidlow also narrowly missed out on the final running a quick 57.55 for the 400m.


Kent & London Schools Championships

At the same time as the older club members were competing in the Southern Campionships, their younger counterparts were competing in either the Kent Schools champs at Ashford or the London School champs at Battersea.

At Ashford Joe Berth Jones and Stephen Ball both picked up silver medals as Joe ran 11.32 for an electric pb in the 100m whilst Stephen ran 2.10.01 for a pb in the 800.

Lucy Daniel found the competition very hard in the junior girls 1500, but still managed to improve her pb by 20 secs to record a time of 5min 51.04secs.

Joe Wood finished in the middle of the field in the 1500m with a good time of 4:37.75

At Battersea the club had a number of winners who look set to be picked to compete at the national championship in Birmingham in July.

Daryl Neita set a new pb of 12.6 to easily win the under 15 Girls 100m whilst Ruth Onyekwe went slightly quicker to win the under 17 100 in 12.5.

Max Collette comfortably won the 1500m by 50m in a pb of 4:18.

New member Tamar Beckford took third behind Ruth in 100 and won the 200 in 26.5.

Charlie Perry was class apart in the 400 hurdles winning in 56.5 despite crashing his way through two hurdles.

Sophie Parkes won the Under 15 girls 800 whilst team mate Grace De Rome took the 1500m.

In the field Tobi Adeniyi won the U15 boys Javelin with a new pb of just over 41metres and Deborah Kabahinda won the U17 girls Javelin and took second in the Discus for good measure

BMC Grand Prix

At Watford in the BMC Grand Prix Joe Durrant competed in the C race of the 800. Although not feeling great prior to the race, he still managed a very fast 600m but faded in the closing stages to record 1m 51.32.

Bluewater 10k and Eltham Park 5

Eleven Cambridge Harriers were among over 2000 runners in this years Bluewater 10k.

Paul Cullern headed the Harriers contingent, followed by Monical Whitefield.

The race was not enough for Jane Phelps and Maria Macdonald who hot footed it from the finish to take part in the Eltham Park 5 at 11am!

Also pairing up were Dave Steel, who ran with Steve Perfect and Dave Fisher finished with his daughter, Sarah. Full results can be found here.
