Sunday Summary - 20 June 2010

Durrant wins first national title

This weekend saw the next fixture of the McCains National Young Athlete league. We'll have a report on this fixture next week.

South of England Championships report-day 2 results

Last week we reported on day 1 of the South of England Championships. On day 2 here were further gold medals for David Bolarinwa who into a very strong headwind of 3.2mps ran an amazing 10.76 to win the Under 20 100m title by over two metres. David had already won the under 17 title and was competing against athletes up to 3 years older. He ran a 10.69 semi final in better conditions.

Clare Elms won the women's 3000m in a lifetime outdoor best of 9:58.36 to regain the title she won in 2008.

Craig Lacy was 4th in the junior men's javelin with 54.36 and 9th in the senior men's javelin with 53.61metres.

Dean Lacy was 8th in the men's 5000m in 15:32.85

Omari Markland Montgomery was 7th in the Under 20 400m in 49.58 while Gabrielle Ade Onojobi was fifth in the 100m hurdles in 14.99 after a 14.97 semi final.

U20 & U23 Championships

Joe Durrant put his recent past form firmly behind him, winning his first national title in the U23 Championships and World Trials at Bedford.

He started his 800m with a slow first lap, but ran 26 seconds in the last 200m to win in 1:52.54.

There was also a win for David Bolarwinra, continuing his fine form to win the U20 100m in 10.47 seconds, gaining 10.43 seconds in the semi final with a tail wind of 5.1. He was third in the 200m with a time of 21.21 seconds.

Herne Hill Harriers Open

This Saturday Clare Elms set another British age group record when she won the women's mile at Tooting in a personal best 4:56.59, taking 19 seconds off the previous UK W45 record, despite very windy conditions.

Later she won the 800m in 2:19.04 for her 34th victory in 45 races in 2010.

Southern Vets League

Without any sprinters it was our middle distances runners who put themselves forward to fill in the gaps and did suprislingly well before the 1500's, earning extra points which resulted in an overall win of the match.

Clare Elms was just getting going when her 200m ended, whilst Joanne Murphy and Roz Tabor droped down age groups and still managed to run well.

Caroline Hall streaked ahead in her 200m once off the bend and into the home straight. Prehaps the 200's did work, three wins in the 1500m, dispite Helen's tight hamstring.

Firsts out on the field came from Chris Bond and Helen Daniel, with Lynne Smith, Maria McDonald and Marlow Hadler not dropping below a 4th.

It's getting very close at the top between the three main Kent clubs so the next two matches (Monday 28 June at Ashford, & Friday 9th July at Bromley) are important.

Eltham Park 5

Cambridge Harriers four year spell as Men’s Team winners at the Eltham Park 5 came to an end last week, as there was a lower turn out from the light blues.
