Mixed fortunes in UK Championships
UK Championships
Curtis Griffith Parker and Joe Durrant were both in action this weekend at the UK Athletics Championships and European Trials in Birmingham.
After comfortably progressing through the heat in1m 51.54, Joe Durrant reached the semi final of an 800m stacked with class athletes, with Michael Rimmer, Britains number one for the last four years lined up alongside him.
The race was swift, and Joe, having survived a trip by Rimmer himself ran a fast but sensible race, overhauling two athletes in the home straight to record a personal best of 1min 49.50 secs, missing a place in the final by 32 hundredths of a second.
However, Joe felt he was badly impeded by Rimmer on the first lap, and tripped, possibly costing him those vital few tenths, and put in a protest. After over an hours deliberation the panel overturned his appeal to be added to the final. Nevertheless, it was another strong and positive performance, one that hopefully will reap rewards in the coming British league fixtures.
In the field, Curtis Griffith-Parker was left unhappy in the discus.
His throw of 57.07m left him in 8th place, nearly six metres off of the winning throw.
National Junior League
The third of four fixtures in the National junior League took place in Dartford on Sunday. Although numbers were down on the girl’s side the team came away with their first win of the season.

Karen Onwuamaegbu was second in the Triple Jump with a PB of 9.33m, she also filled in on the B Discus and came away with a win.
Ruth Onyekwe won the High Jump with a new PB of 1.58m, she also got a new PB of 12.3 in the 100m which gave her a win, this was backed up by Chanel Hemmings’s win in the B string.
Melissa Owusu – Ansah got a new PB of 25.9 and came 2nd on the 200m and this was followed up by a win for Ruth in the B string.
Gabriella Ade Onojobi won the 100mH with a time of 14.7 which is a new PB and club record and won the athlete of the match award, she also won the 400mh, these wins were followed up by Hatshesput James winning both the 100mH and 400mH B string.

John Clark Memorial fell Race - Chingford
Chris Rogers was again in action on the fells in the unlikely place of Chingford last Friday.
In his second year of running the race, Chrismanaged to shave off 1 min 18 secs off last year's time and come in 36th of 54. Chris says, "Being a short steep race, this type of running isn't my forte but I enjoyed the experience of running 'eyeballs out' for the entire route. In spite of being located in 'flat' Essex, the route manages to pack in 5 climbs totalling 814 feet over its 3.1 miles.
Conditions were hot and muggy but that meant that the beers handed out at the prize-giving at the finish line were all the more pleasant. A very friendly if short and frantic race. I'll be back again next year, and hopefully with some company from other Cambridge Harriers!!"
PLEASE NOTE: Could all team maanagers ensure that all reports are sent through ASAP after each meeting. If reports are not recieved, news of the meeting cannot be published!!
If anybody has a query reguarding results or report details, please direct these straight to the relevent team manager.
