Chris Rogers - Raching the summit of Snowdon

Show's not over yet

British Athletics League Division 2 and Men's Southern League

The men’s track team suffered a pretty dire weekend overall though as the saying goes “the shows not over till the fat lady sings” and the A and B teams can still both survive the drop yet!

The B team had the worst of it as a lack of driver for the mini bus led to phone calls to coach companies on the Thursday but to no avail as none had drivers or coaches available at late notice. The end result was that the team didn’t travel and only Alisdair and Rob McDonald and Chris Melluish made it to Eastbourne to contest the match. Full results are here.

The A team at least got to Derby and there were some highlights – Curtis Griffith Parker won both the Shot and Discus with throws of 16.88 and 54.31m. Andy Kruszeski added strength in depth to win the B string Disc and take second in the B shot.

On the track Dean Lacy took the Steeplechase in 9.29.67 with a late sprint finish whilst Charlie Perry set a great new pb of 56.51 in the 400 hurdles.

With two first pick athletes out of the country, four revising for exams, two injured, two with unspecific excuses and one who thought the event was the following week there was no way we were going to do well and the end result was a resounding last place.

However, the league has its strengths, but a full Cambridge team could move up to 4th or even 3rd spot. To get this level of competition we do need athletes to commit themselves to the 4 matches in the season. Next outing is at Kingston on Saturday July 3rd – Watch this space

Welsh 1000m Peaks Race

Chris Rogers made the trip by himself up to Wales for the Snowdon Fell Race.

Tackling the mountain, he came in 16th of 34 runners, and 4 seconds within his target time of 02:30.

Chris tells us, "Despite drinking water like a fish before and during the race, the hot sunshine got me so dehydrated that I was struggling to walk let alone run up the zig-zags on Snowdon. I look nearly dead as I approached Snowdon summit, being the end of the race! I did enjoy taking part in the race though and plan to do the full race next year (mad, I know...)"

Looking at Chris' picture we couldn't agree more with his comments. Incredibly tough work from the Man of Kent.
